Guide · Clipboard history on Mac

Clipboard history on a Mac, kept by the day.

The system clipboard remembers one thing. Spotlight keeps a short list, then drops it. Copybook keeps a page for the day you copied it.

People look up clipboard history on Mac after the same small loss. You copy a link, a sentence, or a hex color you want later. Then you press Command + C again, and the first thing is gone.

What your Mac already keeps

  1. One item, on every Mac. The clipboard holds the latest copy. The next copy replaces it.
  2. A short list in Spotlight, on macOS Tahoe. System Settings → Spotlight can keep clipboard history for 30 minutes, 8 hours, or 7 days, then drop it. See Spotlight clipboard history.

A history that stays on the day

While Copybook is open in the menu bar, the copy lands on today’s page. Flip the strip along the bottom and yesterday is still yesterday. Search a word, a page title, part of a link, or a color’s name. Click a sticker to put it back on the clipboard.

Colors land on that day’s page

Copy #ee7b6a and it lands as a swatch named coral, on the page for that day. Next week you can search the name. See named colors on the day and clipboard manager for Mac.
